The basics

  • Additional cardholders. Allows up to 4 free additional cardholders to share your account with family members. The primary cardholder will be responsible for managing the account and repayments.
  • Digital wallets. American Express cardholders in New Zealand can't use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay digital wallets.
  • Gambling transactions. American Express blocks all gambling-related purchases on this card (and any of their other cards).

Rewards and benefits

  • Complimentary travel insurance. The American Express Gold Rewards Card offers complimentary international travel insurance for cardholders. For coverage to be effective, tickets must have been purchased with the card. Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria apply.
  • Concierge services. Cardholders have access to the complimentary concierge service. You can use this to get help with all kinds of tasks like getting travel recommendations, booking tables and hotels, arranging gifts and deliveries, comparing prices, and more.
  • Insurances. The card's complimentary domestic and overseas travel insurance covers medical emergency expenses, travel cancellation, baggage, money and documents, subject to certain limits and conditions.
  • Rewards points. Earn 2 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on eligible purchases, with no cap on points earned. Membership Rewards program points do not expire while the account remains open and in good standing. Available points transfer partners include Air New Zealand Airports, Cathay Asia Miles, Emirates Skywards, Malaysia Airlines Enrich, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and Velocity Frequent Flyer. Points may also be transferred to Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy. This range of transfer partners makes extracting the most value from your rewards easier.
  • Sign up bonus. New qualifying customers can get a sign up bonus of $200 cashback after spending $1,500 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days.

Rates and fees

  • Annual fee. The American Express Gold Rewards Card has an annual fee of $200 p.a.
  • Balance transfers. There is currently no balance transfer offer on this card.
  • Cash advances. Cash advances will be charged interest at 22.95% p.a., accruing from the day the cash advance was made. American Express will charge a separate one-off fee for any cash advances.
  • Foreign exchange fee. Purchases made while overseas or with an overseas online store will incur a 2.50% foreign transaction fee.
  • Interest-free period. Get up to 55 days interest-free on purchases (excluding cash advances), provided you have paid off your previous balance or made the minimum required payment.
  • Purchases. The ongoing purchase rate is 22.95% p.a. There is no introductory offer on purchases.
