The basics

  • Additional cardholders. Additional cardholders are supported, but it costs $5 p.a. per card.
  • Digital wallets. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported for this card, but not Samsung Pay.
  • Gambling transactions. The ANZ Airpoints Visa Credit Card can be used to make gambling-related purchases. However, they won't earn rewards.

Rewards and benefits

  • Complimentary travel insurance. Unlike the platinum version of this card, there is no complimentary international travel insurance policy.
  • Concierge services. This card, being the entry-level option, also lacks access to a concierge service.
  • Insurances. Apart from fraud protection, there are no other insurance benefits such as extended warranty, purchase protection, transport accident, international travel or domestic hotel burglary insurance.
  • Rewards points. The ANZ Airpoints Visa Credit Card allows cardholders to earn 0.008 Airpoints Dollars for every $1 (or 1 Airpoints Dollar per $170) spent on eligible purchases in New Zealand and overseas. There is no cap per month or year. Like the platinum version, cardholders can get an advance of Airpoints Dollars should they need a few extra for a redemption.
  • Sign up bonus. ANZ offers a sign up bonus of 500 Airpoints Dollars when you spend $750 in the first 3 months.

Rates and fees

  • Annual fee. This card has an annual fee of $65 p.a. This is substantially lower than the platinum version, but bear in mind the corresponding lower earn rate.
  • Balance transfers. This card does not currently offer a balance transfer option.
  • Cash advances. A 19.95% p.a. interest rate will apply to any cash advances made using this card, with interest accruing from the transaction date. With this card, there is no one-off fee charged for cash advances. Airpoints Dollars cannot be earned on any transaction classed as a cash advance.
  • Foreign exchange fee. Transactions made online or while overseas in a foreign currency will incur a 2.5% fee.
  • Interest-free period. Get up to 44 days interest-free on purchases (except cash advances) when you have paid your previous balance in full or made the minimum required payment.
  • Purchases. There is currently no introductory offer on purchases. Any purchases made with this card will attract interest at 19.95% p.a. This rate is typical of a rewards credit card in New Zealand's market.
