The basics

  • Additional cardholders. It's free to add an additional cardholder.
  • Digital wallets. This card supports Google Pay. Westpac does not currently support Apple Pay or Samsung Pay.
  • Gambling transactions. Gambling transactions are allowed on this card but are treated as cash advances.

Rewards and benefits

  • Complimentary travel insurance. The Westpac Fee Free Mastercard is marketed as a card that's all about being low-cost. Unsurprisingly, there's no complimentary international travel insurance.
  • Concierge services. This card does not come with a concierge service (or any other perks and privileges associated with higher-level cards).
  • Insurances. This card comes has the usual Mastercard security and fraud protection, but no extra insurance coverage.
  • Rewards points. There is no rewards program, i.e. you can't earn Westpac hotpoints or Airpoints Dollars.
  • Sign up bonus. Westpac have no sign up bonus on offer for new customers. That's typical of a card like this.

Rates and fees

  • Annual fee. In line with the branding, there is no annual fee.
  • Balance transfers. Transfer debt from non-Westpac credit and store cards and consolidate at 5.95% p.a. for life. This is quite unique since most banks revert to a much higher rate after an initial introductory period.
  • Cash advances. Cash advances made on the Westpac Fee Free Mastercard will be charged interest at 19.95% p.a., with interest beginning to accrue immediately. There is no cash advance fee.
  • Foreign exchange fee. Westpac Fee Free Mastercard does not charge for purchases and advances in a foreign currency. This could save around 2% compared to those cards that do charge this fee.
  • Interest-free period. Get up to 55 days interest-free on purchases (excluding cash advances) when you have paid your previous balance in full or made the minimum required payment.
  • Purchases. Cardholders get a low ongoing rate of 12.90% p.a. for purchases made with the card. This is one of the lowest ongoing rates on the market.
