    Best credit card for me

    Reviewed by Sharon

I always hear people complaining about never being able to use frequent flyer points when they want to, but I have never encountered a problem at all. I let my card work for me by paying everything possible with it and earning heaps of points in the process. I have had free trips every year with Qantas, a wonderful airline, and the trick is to plan ahead and never miss out on the flight at the time you most wish to travel.

Happy with my ANZ card except the annual fee

    Reviewed by Ali

The service I get from ANZ is fantastic the only complaint that I have is the annual fees other wise its all good. I can use either of my cards in most shops and have never had anyone scam me. I find that I budget better with a credit card then before I had one. It gets paid off every month so I don’t pay any interest and still don’t spend more then I can afford.

Very pleased with this card: good rewards system, very quick to replace lost cards, and customer service is always prompt, efficient and helpful.

In particular they are quick and responsive to purchases that have been queried or are invalid, and the correction is always carried through without undue questioning or delays.

    Reliable and trustworthy

The reliability and back up service is excellent. I feel confident that the security behind the card operation is of the highest standard. I use the card and the service both locally and overseas with ease. I have found the internet banking system associated with the card can be hard to access at times. The phone app is also excellent.

    Too expensive

    Reviewed by Frances Hessing

I took this originally for the Qantas points and used it only the once because there was always too much involved in getting flights etc. I would like to find a better alternative, but it’s feels like a minefield. And it’s never the right time to look into it or I just don’t have the time – not lazy, just frustrated.

Cancelling this card because of online banking

    Reviewed by Angela

The card is good and as expected, but ANZ’s online banking (i.e. being able to log on, check transactions, view statements) is so incredibly unreliable. About 40% of the time something isn’t working, usually for no apparent reason. This then requires endless waiting on the phone. The call centre staff tries to be helpful, but they are limited by the incredibly complex and complicated system. And once one problem is solved, there is another one next time. I want to be able to log on and check transactions without constant issues and subsequent phone calls, so we’ll be switching to another bank.

    Good card

    Reviewed by Nancy

This is a good card for everyday use, but 15 day auto pay-off is a bit of a pain because you never pay off the whole amount owing. This means you never have your full amount of credit for the month. Also, the statement period runs from 20th to 20th, so it’s a bit hard to track monthly spending and budget.

    Generally pleased with these cards

    Reviewed by Justin

I feel the rates and fees are a little pricey with this card, however if you choose ANZ’s break-free mortgage package, your fees ($295 year) are waived.

The beauty of Paywave and the fact most big retailers take AmEx means more rewards: 1.5 points per dollar spent is awesome! As long as you pay off your balance within the 55 day interest free period, it’s a win for you.

Love the fact ANZ fraud squad is always on their toes. It can be a little inconvenient sometimes when you place a new online order that is different to the norm. But if you’re like me

    The ANZ app is terrible

    Reviewed by Kat

I got this credit card due to the frequent flyer points promotion that they had going at the time. I’m currently looking at changing as the fees you pay are huge and the service you get is poor. I had my cards stolen and they didn’t even cancel them after I had called them twice. It also takes about a week for transactions to show on your statement.

    Free travel insurance

    Reviewed by Doron

This card includes travel insurance which is comprehensive. For this reason I do not need to take additional travel insurance when travelling overseas. It also offers Qantas Frequent Flyer points on all shopping, which accumulates quickly. The card offers usage of lounges in international airports, but I had bad experiences using it overseas. The information provided by the bank was useless and thus I never benefitted from this feature.

ANZ saved me thousands acting on my behalf

Helps with using the points to fly

    Reviewed by Ashley

It’s great to spend money and get rewards for points to fly, or buy anything with points, but it could have more points per dollar spent. I have had it nearly a year and it’s been great knowing that i get rewards. It’s not too bad as regards interest rates either. We were a bit sceptical about getting a credit card, but once we saw the rewards, not only from the credit card but from our health insurance and other things we get through Qantas points, we realised it’s amazing.

Go with a lower rate, low fee card

    Reviewed by Anne

The annual fee on this credit card is quite high. The interest rate is pretty high also, but there’s a fairly decent awards program with variety of awards to choose from.

Another major negative is that it takes a long time to earn enough points to redeem a decent award. There aren’t really any decent awards that don’t cost a ridiculous number of points. You end up needing to spend tens of thousands of dollars in order to earn enough points to redeem a decent award.

There are many awards programs on offer by any number of different banks that offer the same credit card types but with a much lower interest rate and, most importantly, a much cheaper annual fee.
