Who owns Credit Savvy?

At first glance Credit Savvy appears to be an entirely independent service. However, a little investigation reveals that CBA New Digital Businesses Pty Ltd — a wholly owned subsidiary of CommonWealth Bank — owns Credit Savvy. If you bank with CommBank, you may have already seen Credit Savvy in their app.

Are they a legit service?

Being owned by Australia’s largest bank, it’s obvious that Credit Savvy is a legitimate credit score checking platform. But can you trust their accuracy? Well, yes, you can. Credit Savvy are partnered with Experian — one of the main credit reporting bureaus in Australia — so what you see is what you’d get if you signed up to Experian directly (or another Experian-powered service).

What credit reporting bureau do they use?

Credit Savvy use Experian for their service. As one of Australia’s main credit reporting bureaus and one of the world’s largest credit data providers, Experian is amongst the most trustworthy options on the market.

How much does it cost?

You won’t pay a penny to access Credit Savvy, with free reports directly accessible to you either through the Commonwealth mobile app or through the online platform itself. As with many credit score services, Credit Savvy funds their free platform through the advertisement and comparison of personal loans, home loans and credit cards, rather than charging a subscription fee.

What ID is required to sign up?

As is the case when registering for any credit score service, you’ll need to provide some form of ID to sign up for Credit Savvy. Options include an Australian driving licence, passport, or Medicare card to prove your identity. You’ll then need to provide further details about your past addresses, full name, and date of birth before you can get your score. This may not be required for the Commonwealth Bank app, where the platform already retains certain details identifying you.

How often can you check?

You can check your Credit Savvy score as often as you’d like, though you’ll only get one update per month to reflect what your current score is.

Do they provide your full credit report?

You’ll get more than just your basic score. Credit Savvy also provide details on credit accounts and relationships, repayment history, credit enquiries, and negative events.

Credit Score Factors – insights and areas for improvement – are also included. You’ll also get an overall Credit Report Summary that covers the basics of your credit file without going into minute detail. If you’re looking for a quick overview, Credit Savvy delivers plenty.

Do they have a mobile app?

While there is currently no specific mobile application for their service, their service is optimised for mobile. CommBank customers can use Credit Savvy within the Commonwealth Bank’s app.

Does using Credit Savvy affect your credit score?

Credit Savvy only performs a soft check to access your credit details. This has no impact on your credit score.

Can I use it to get the credit score for a business?

While you can compare business loans online on their website, the actual credit score service they offer is tailored to individuals specifically.
