Early life

Phillip Bryan Schofield was born on 1 April 1962 in Oldham, Greater Manchester. He grew up in Newquay, Cornwall with his younger brother Tim, who looks remarkably like him.

Education

Schofield started his education by attending Trenance Infant School and then moved on to Newquay Tretherras Secondary School.

His family moved to New Zealand when he was 17. He did not continue his education while there.

In 2017, he was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts (D.Arts) by the University of Plymouth.

Phillip started his broadcasting career at 15 by volunteering to do a radio show in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. At 17, he became a booking clerk for BBC Radio. His family moved to New Zealand when Phillip was in his teens, but that did not stop him from pursuing a career in media. During his 2.5 year stay in New Zealand, he presented the youth music show "Shazam!" and worked for two years at "Radio Hauraki".

On his return to the UK, in 1985, he became a continuity presenter for "Children´s BBC". He was the first person to fulfil this role in vision.

Schofield did such a good job that he was asked to present the BBC's top Saturday morning children's show, "Going Live". Kids loved the show, so Phillip was also able to earn from making personal appearances.

He was instrumental in the successful launch of "Radio 1" for which he did a Sunday show.

When Phillip move across to adult-oriented TV shows in the 1990s, his earning power took off.

Around the same time, he played the lead in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat". Later, he took on two other theatre roles. He was offered a record deal, which he turned down.

Over the course of his career, Phillip has presented more than 30 different TV shows including “Dancing on Ice", "The Cube", and "This Morning".

Up until 2012, Phillip Schofield was being paid £600,000 for "This Morning". When the length of the show was extended, that went up to £750,000.

In August 2021, it was reported that his media company Fistral Productions had equity of £2.5 million and £789,002 "cash at bank and in hand".

His autobiography, titled "Life is What You Make it", secured him £1.45 million. Phillip also takes on work outside of broadcasting. For example, he was reportedly paid £60,000 for being the face of The Craft Gin Club´s 2020 Advent Calendar.

In 2013, he started writing for the Waitrose Weekend newspaper. Not long after, they launched two wines that bear his name.

Phillip owns two properties with his wife: their original family home in Oxfordshire, which is estimated to be worth around £2 million, and a £1 million property in Newquay, Cornwall, which they bought via Fistral Productions. Phillip also has a house in Chiswick, valued at around £2 million.
