Hailed as one of the best mixed martial arts fighters to have graced the octagon, Conor McGregor has achieved notoriety for his knockouts.
Best-known for his performance in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), his famous 13-second title win in the fight against Aldo is a fixture that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Although he has not been involved in as many fight nights, he remains one of the most famed mixed-martial artists. McGregor is one of the best-paid MMA fighters. His net worth is such that he has a spot on the Forbes richest athletes list.
As a decorated mixed martial arts fighter, a father, and an entrepreneur, one has to assume that he has a pretty hectic lifestyle. This is a look inside a typical day-in-the-life of MMA great, Conor McGregor.
Inside Conor McGregor's daily routine
Mornings
Like so many athletes, McGregor is an early riser. One of the first things he does when he gets out of bed is to drink a tall glass of cold water. Still water and coconut water are his go-to drinks, helping him remain hydrated.
After drinking his water and getting the sleep out of his eyes, Conor attends to his personal needs and then gets ready for breakfast.
He sticks to a pretty strict diet, eating as healthily as he can most of the time. His diet is pretty much what you would expect from an MMA fighter: high protein, low carbs, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, with plenty of water throughout the day.
An example of what might be on Conor’s breakfast table includes fresh eggs, bananas, and some leafy green vegetables.
Afternoons
In the afternoon, he focuses on training. Unlike other mixed martial artists, McGregor has made it abundantly clear that he does not like to stick to a rigid workout routine. Instead, he prefers a more spontaneous, free-flowing training routine.
In one of his interviews, the MMA fighter said, “For me, I notice with other people, they have a set time – you need to be in the gym at 12, 12 to 1:30, then they go off and do something and come back at a set time. I don’t do that. I train when I feel like training. I operate on my own time.”
In that same interview, he also told the magazine, “In the early days, I had regimenting, but I did not like it. Sometimes you go to the gym and you don’t feel like going to the gym. You’re not going to learn something in that time because your mind is not there, and you’re also risking injury.”
This approach to training certainly seems to have worked well for Conor, given the huge success he has achieved over his career.
Evenings
After spending the afternoon training — loosely, as stated — he eats dinner.
While meals vary, it’s pretty much always healthy and well-balanced. An example of a dinner that McGregor might eat includes low-fat organic meat, such as salmon, steak, or chicken, and more fresh vegetables.
After dinner, he attends to obligations and commitments, such as interviews and public appearances. He also tries to spend as much time with his family as he possibly can, and also meet up with his buddies to enjoy some downtime and just be “one of the guys”.
McGregor doesn’t have a set bedtime, although he does try to turn in at a reasonable hour. Regardless of when he turns in, he makes it a point to drink a protein shake before bed.
