In her former life, Meghan Markle was best known as an actress. Her role inSuits, the popular legal drama series, in which she played paralegal Rachel Zane, was perhaps her most famous. Her CV is long and includes spots in numerous TV shows and films, includingGeneral Hospital, 90210, Castle, When Sparks Fly,andHorrible Bosses. While she was no stranger to the spotlight, the size of that spotlight changed in 2016, when she met Prince Harry, and it got even bigger in 2018 when she married the prince.
Now an official member of the British Royal Family, and formally known as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, saying that she has experienced some pretty significant life changes would be an understatement.
Markle has withdrawn from life as a Royal, and therefore, she no longer has any Royal duties to uphold. She now splits her time between activism, business, and being a mother.
With a slew of obligations and responsibilities – including being under the constant watchful eye of the paparazzi – one must wonder how she manages to juggle it all.
The answer: she keeps a very rigid schedule and sticks to a solid routine.
This is a sneak peek into a day in the life of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
Inside a day in the life of Meghan Markle
Mornings
Mornings have always been a big deal for Meghan. Even before she became royalty, she was a self-proclaimed “morning person,” and that continues to be true. According to Refinery 29, she said that “[mornings] set the tone for our day ahead”, on The Tig, the lifestyle website that she once ran.
She starts her days early, reportedly at around 4:30 am, and almost immediately transitions into yoga. She was inspired by her mother, Doria Ragland, who was a yoga instructor, to incorporate yoga into her daily routine. Typically, she practices yoga in her home, though she also enjoys participating in hot yoga classes.
Markle is also a runner. She once stated that she needs to run "as much to clear my head as to keep in shape.”
After a workout, Markle gets to work. She reportedly starts sending out emails to her staff as early as 5:00 am.
A lover of food, the Duchess of Sussex rarely skips breakfast, and as one would imagine, her first meal of the day is exceptionally healthy. According to social media posts, breakfast includes meals like avocado toast, omelet’s made with fresh herbs, and gluten-free pancakes.
Afternoons
In the afternoons, Meghan Markle is a pretty busy bee. She is very involved in multiple charities, including One Young World, World Vision, and UN Women. She often assists with organizing events for these organizations, and frequently speaks at them, too.
When she isn’t attending meetings, planning charity events, and accompanying Prince Harry, she likes to spend time doing “average” people things, like planning home renovations, grocery shopping, exercising, or going to the movies.
Evenings
In the evenings, Markle likes to keep things low-key. Who can blame her? With such a jam-packed day and such a high-profile lifestyle, she most certainly deserves to relax and unwind.
She and her hubby enjoy sporting casual attire and checking out film screenings. Markle once told Women’s Health that she gives herself “the luxury of downtime,” and that she and her husband are “so incredibly busy and juggling so many things, but I always take an hour to just decompress, watch mindless TV, snuggle with my dogs, and enjoy a glass of wine…”
It’s been reported that Meghan and Harry often like to just stay home, cook together, and kick back and relax while watching their favorite shows on Netflix.
As for bedtime, her routine hasn’t been well-documented, and she hasn’t shed much light on it herself.
A fun tidbit: since she’s a member of the Royal Family, her sleep schedule sometimes depends on Queen Elizabeth. If they are staying over at the Queen’s house, they must stay up until the Queen herself turns in for the night.
