The son of an Argentinian cleaner and factory worker, Lionel Messi has come a long way from his meager beginnings. Football appealed to him as a child, and he was constantly practicing and honing his skills. His hard work certainly paid off.
Many consider Lionel — who is also often referred to as “Leo” — the best football player in the world. He is also regarded as one of the best football players of all time and also one of the richest.
Over the course of his career, Messi has claimed virtually every award the football world offers, including multiple Ballon d’Or and European Golden Shoes. He was named on the Ballon d”or Dream Team, an all-time, all-star team that was published by France Football in 2020. He’s won umpteen trophies and league titles in his career.
Football isn’t the only thing that Lionel is passionate about; he’s just as adoring of his partner, Antonela Roccuzza, whom he has known since he was five and has been in a relationship with since 2008, and their three young sons.
Between his duties as a father, and all of the practice and games, it’s safe to assume that Lionel Messi has a pretty jam-packed schedule. Wondering how he juggles it all and what else, besides football, he might do with his time? Is it similar to other top footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar? Keep on reading for an overview of a day in the life of one of the most renowned and decorated football players of all time.
Lionel Messi starts his days bright and early at around 6 am. After tending to personal matters, he hops into the shower at 7 am. Once he’s ready to go, he enjoys a hearty, healthy breakfast with his family at 8 am. Breakfast items vary, but often, the star football player’s first meal of the day consists of fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains, and orange juice.
After breakfast, Lionel heads out for training at about 9 am. His workout routine consists of multi-directional speed and linear speed training, as well as weight training and stretching. The three main factors that the footballer focuses on include strength, speed, and stretching. It’s been reported that he mixes up his routines to incorporate various exercises, examples of which include:
- Pillar bridges
- Knee hug lunges
- Inverted hamstring stretches
- Pillar skips
- Hurdle hops
- Acceleration wall drill marching
When he’s finished his training session, he hits the shower at about 11 am, and gets geared up for the rest of the day.
At about midday, Lionel Messi heads back home, where he, his girlfriend, and his kids enjoy a healthy family lunch. Post lunch, the footballer kicks back, relaxes, and takes a much-needed and well-deserved nap at about 1 pm, which lasts until approximately 2 pm.
After his mid-afternoon nap, at about 2 pm, Messi spends quality time with his three sons. At approximately 3 pm, he grabs a snack and then heads back to do some more training. Once he’s completed his afternoon training/workout session, Messi enjoys another rest at about 4:30 pm.
When he isn’t playing a match, Messi has team training around 5 pm, which can last for several hours and may include various activities.
At the completion of evening team training, he heads back home, and at around about 8 pm, has a family dinner.
After spending quality family time, he calls it quits and turns in for the night at about 9 pm for a full night’s sleep.
