Oprah Winfrey’s talk show,The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was broadcast from Chicago, ran in national syndication for 25 years, from 1986 to 2011. It was one of the highest-rated TV talk shows of all time.
Coined the “Queen of All Media”, the wealthiest African American of the 20th century was at one time, the only black billionaire in the world. She is said to be the greatest black philanthropist in American history, even though she was born into poverty.
When she was in high school, Oprah scored a gig on the radio, and by the tender age of 19, she was the co-anchor of a local evening news station. She then moved to a third-rate locally broadcast talk show in Chicago, which she took to first place, and then proceeded to launch her own production company: Harpo (Oprah spelled backward). It was then when she started her own talk show, and the rest really is history.
She has certainly achieved a lot, and one can’t help but wonder how she does it all. Here's a snapshot of her daily routine.
Inside a day in the life of Oprah Winfrey
Mornings
Oprah Winfrey says that she rises at about 7:10 am. She says that her favorite place to wake up is surrounded by nature in her own Montecito, California home, which she refers to as the "Promised Land."
While she may be awake early, she takes her time getting out of bed. It could be 8 am before she gets up, brushes her teeth, and takes her five dogs out. She strolls the yard while her pooches do their business, and when they return inside, she makes her favorite espresso (a mixture of caffeinated and decaffeinated espresso with milk and a touch of hazelnut).
While she’s waiting for her espresso to brew, Oprah reads cards from her 365 Gathered Truths box. She claims to read five each morning for inspiration. By 8:30 am, she meditates, which she does every day.
At 9 am, after her meditation, she works out for an hour. Her workout routine involves low-impact strength training and running, either on her treadmill or around her 65-acre property.
Afternoons
By around 12:30, Oprah and her longtime partner, Stedman Graham, eat lunch made with produce from their garden. Oprah says that lunch is her favorite meal of the day, so she really tries to enjoy it to the fullest. Often, she’ll invite friends, such as Chrissy Metz and Jennifer Lawrence, over if Stedman isn’t there.
After lunch, she takes care of business. This includes handling financial affairs, answering emails, making phone calls, and checking in with her best friend Gayle King, who is the editor at large of O, Oprah’s magazine.
Later in the afternoon, she does some more light exercise and then tries to go to her teahouse, where she enjoys a spot of decaffeinated tea.
Evenings
At 6 pm, Oprah eats dinner. If Stedman is there, she’ll have a formal meal, but if she’s alone, she says she’ll often just grab a bowl of soup or a protein shake.
After eating, she takes the dogs for another long walk and finishes the day around the fire with her loved ones, reading a book, and sipping herbal tea.
By 9:30 pm, she takes a bath, before going to the bedroom and turning in for the night.
