Charlie Lee was born in 1977 on the Ivory Coast. His father was one of the first Chinese immigrants to move to Africa in the 1960s. Charlie's parents left the Ivory Coast for the United States when he was 13.

How did Charlie Lee build his net worth?
Charlie Lee started out working in various tech companies as a software engineer in California. He joined Google in 2007 and worked on projects such as Chrome OS, Play Games, and YT Mobile, expanding his experience with software development. He would have taken home a generous salary and enjoyed some of the Silicon Valley Company's trademark benefits.
During his tenure at Google, he was introduced to cryptocurrency. Lee heard about how crypto was being used for payments on the Silkroad, a marketplace on the dark web, after it was shut down by the FBI . It was around then that he started mining Bitcoin and researching more about blockchain technology in general.
Around 2011, he spoke with Mike Hearn, who also happened to sell him his first Bitcoin. Charlie created Fairbix, which was an early altcoin that went public but failed within the same year. He then created a PoW protocol and launched Litecoin in the same year. Many have pointed to the distinct similarities between Bitcoin and Litecoin.
Charlie would remain with Google for a couple more years as his Litcoin following and value increased. He joined Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam's Coinbase, where he remained until 2017 when he left to advance Litecoin in the crypto space.
In 2017, Lee announced on Reddit that he had sold or donated all his Litecoin.
