David Itzler’s life is far from ordinary or predictable, and few days follow the same pattern. He says that he couldn't have planned his life better, even if it is somewhat hectic.
Itzler wears many hats: musician, entrepreneur, writer, motivational speaker, and endurance athlete.
He landed a recording contract straight out of school and, under the name Jesse Jaymes, made the 74th spot on the Top 100 Billboard. David went on to write songs for sports teams. He even won an Emmy Award for the song “I love this game.”
Nowadays, he is better known for starting several businesses, including Marquis Jet, one of the world’s largest private jet card companies, and as the owner of a baseball team, the Atlanta Hawks. In his spare time, he runs ultra-marathons and writes best-selling books.
Here’s what a day in the life of David Itzler might look like.
Coming up next
Mornings
David Itzler has a busy and varied life. Every day is different. He’s spent a month in a monastery and a month living and working out with David Goggins, an ex-Navy SEAL revered by everyone from Joe Rogan to Jocko Willink because of his tenacity and incredible commitment to fitness and personal development.
A typical day for David starts at 5 am, something he picked up Goggins after he invited him to live with him for a month. Before Goggins' stay, David woke at seven in the morning. He credits Goggins with adding an extra two hours a day to his life. With four young children, those extra hours come in handy.
David eats only fruit until noon, a routine he has followed for 26 years. Midway through the morning, he typically makes himself a smoothie. He lives at a frantic pace, spending plenty of time with his children. He also has to make time for his regular podcasts and motivational speaking meetings in the morning.
Afternoons
Although he is a vegetarian, Itzler sometimes enjoys sushi with his wife. He’ll start the afternoon with a light vegetarian meal, after which he’s likely to spend some time working out. He also loves a sauna, so we’re betting his workout ends with a sauna.
The afternoon's activities differ from day to day and may include time spent recording a podcast, an interview, or writing. This is when he will also spend time training for endurance races.
Evenings
The evenings are often family affairs. David will enjoy dinner with his wife, Spanx founder Sara Blakely. Sometimes he shares wine and a chat with friends, or he might spend some time playing with his children.
After 8 pm, David enjoys a sweet indulgence of loads of dark chocolate, his guilty passion, before turning in for the night.
