How did Daymond John build his net worth?
Daymond Garfield John made his money as a savvy businessman, investor, and television personality.
John is a familiar face to those who watch "The Shark Tank," the hit investing TV show he appears on alongside Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran, and guests such as Ring doorbell creator Jamie Siminoff.
The hip-hop community and beyond would be no stranger to the well-known brand "FUBU," meaning 'For Us, By Us' which he founded and is president and CEO.
In 1992, his mom mortgaged their home for $100,000, and they lived in one half and built a small factory addition with the other half. It was there that FUBU was born and spread throughout the world. It hit lofty heights in 1998 when it grossed $350 million in global sales.
Since then, FUBU has continued collaborating with various brands, including Pyer Moss and Urban Outfitters. In March 2019, FUBU announced a new partnership with Century 21.
John has a nose for a good deal, and his canny investing in the Shark Tank entrepreneurs has paid dividends.
Some of his lucrative investments are in Bubba's-Q Boneless Ribs, which saw the company go from a mere $154,000 in sales to $16 million in 3 years. After investing in Bombas Socks, the company's sales increased from $450,000 in the first nine months to $12 million. John also invested in Sun-Staches, and they have done over $4.2 million in sales. All of which he has a stake in.
Besides his antics on screen, John founded "The Shark Group," a branding and marketing agency. He also makes money from speaking engagements.
How has Daymond John spent his wealth?
Daymond John has invested $8,567,000 in the 100 episodes he has appeared in during the run of the show, but not all have paid dividends.
After getting his first taste of financial success, John splurged on six or seven houses, two only ten blocks away from the other in Miami. He sold those but for undisclosed sums.
He lives in a beautiful high-rise apartment in midtown Manhattan with his wife, Heather John. It is coincidentally and conveniently located across from the Empire State Building, where Daymond runs FUBU.
Daymond also owns a cabin in Dutchess County, outside New York City. He fills this expansive property with dozens of varieties of animals and fish and is an avid beekeeper with around a million and a half bees. Interestingly, he bought the hive then and there from one of the Shark Tank contestants.
Daymond John garages several luxurious and highly-priced vehicles — a Rolls Royce Phantom worth $460,000, a Mercedes AMG G63 that will set you back $130,000, a 2020 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, a mere $270,000, a $110,000 Cadillac Escalade, and a $110,000 Tesla Model S.
Not bad for a young boy living in Queens with his single mom.
